Arts and culture in Perth

Perth is alive with a spectacular mix of music, theatre, comedy, dance and visual art. This rich tapestry of cultural experiences is on offer throughout the year across the region.

Music lovers are in for a treat, with plenty of live music on offer especially in cultural hotspots like Perth, Northbridge, Subiaco and Fremantle. You'll find music ranging from rock bands at trendy pubs to chilled-out jazz floating from wine bars and restaurants. Perth is also emerging as a comedy capital, with hilarious local and international acts regularly on offer at special comedy clubs or pubs, especially in Northbridge.

  • Jess Johnson | Hex Nemesis

    Fremantle | Dates: 26 May – 16 Jul, 2017
    For her first solo show in WA, Jess Johnson (AUS/USA) will transform the gallery of the Fremantle Arts Centre with a wallpaper installation based on the densely patterned and constructed worlds in her drawings. Exhibition opens Friday 26 May at 6.30 and runs to Sunday 16 July.

    The Revelation Perth International Film Festival is one of the most exciting and respected independent cinema festivals in Australia. Fremantle Arts Centre is partnering with Revelation for the first time to present Warp.
  • Trevor Bly & Patrick Doherty | One Street from Happiness

    Fremantle | Dates: 26 May – 16 Jul, 2017
    One street from happiness is an exhibition at the Fremante Arts Centre of experimental prints and paintings by urban artists Trevor Bly (WA) and Patrick Doherty (WA) which explores ideas of locality, identity, spirituality and historical conflict. Exhibition opens on Friday 26 May at 6:30pm and runs through to Sunday 16 July.
  • Claire Robertson | Far From Here

    Fremantle | Dates: 26 May – 16 Jul, 2017
    Returning to the remains of the temporary mining camp located 1,651km from Perth that her family called home in the 1980s, video artist Claire Robertson transports her audience into the vast landscape of the WA outback in Far From Here at the Fremantle Arts Centre. Exhibition opens Friday 26 May at 6:30pm and runs through to Sunday 16 July.
