Arts and culture in Perth

Music lovers are in for a treat, with plenty of live music on offer especially in cultural hotspots like Perth, Northbridge, Subiaco and Fremantle. You'll find music ranging from rock bands at trendy pubs to chilled-out jazz floating from wine bars and restaurants.     Japingka Gallery in Fremantle present two exciting exhibitions from 21 July - 29 August. Paintings that reflect the great sagas of Yam Dreaming and works that showcase the changing seasons of the West Australian Outback.

    In I WAS HERE seven artists turn conventional history on its head at the Fremantle Arts Centre from 21 July - 16 September. The world is flipped upside down, long held beliefs are disproved and fact replaces fiction as the artists grapple with what's real, imagined or forgotten over time.
  • Ian Strange | Island

    Fremantle | Dates: 21 Jul – 16 Sep, 2017
    Fremantle Arts Centre present the World Premier exhibition by Perth-raised, New York-based artist Ian Strange, opening Friday 21 July at 6.30pm and running through to Saturday 16 September. Continuing his investigations into architecture and the home ISLAND features large-scale photographs of three interventions on foreclosed suburban houses in Ohio's Rust Belt region.
  • Scratching the Surface

    Crawley | Dates: 23 Jul – 23 Sep, 2017
    View a selection of personal works from the Janet Holmes à Court collection at UWA's Lawrence Wilson Art Gallery from 22 July - 23 September, 11am - 5pm. Focusing on local and national art, this is a rare opportunity, giving visitors a chance to experience some of the best-loved works from a very personal collection of Australian art.
